The Santa Monica Morning Pigeon-Feeders - an ad hoc N.A. Meeting.

 As some people would know, I was taken in for a quick processing and cite out for drug possession in Hermosa Beach, a few months back, or so. They don’t allow smoking cigarettes in public there, and I was spotted by a police officer while I was having a smoke break, by The Strand. As a result, I had to go to court. They ordered N.A. meetings for me. 

The Santa Monica Morning Pigeons Feeding meeting is sparsely attended, but it’s a reliably good sober group that reminds us of commitments, which is part of the progress in attainment that sobriety aspires to, for the fellowship and individuals attending 12-Step meetings.

 As it's springtime in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) | South | Central Los Angeles, and neighboring urban locales, it's time for the seasonal reawakening of life, from out of many concerns and troubles over survivability of the young, given that they are featherless, save for some scant downy fuzz feathers. Many types of birds whom have not been farmed nearly as much, to a standard, as chickens, for example, have chicks that emerge from the egg, bearing feathers. Perhaps in the future, we could work towards a project goal of seeing the birds lay babies that emerge from the egg: feathered; for being more well nourished, over generations. 

Here, I spotted a cute one; this pigeon is showing off it's interests in the things laying around, of interest.

Although I haven't been around to check on them much, lately, since, and somewhat because there's no feeding allowed at this pigeon flock hangout (at the Union Station Gold Line Metro), I caught this pigeon being cute, up in their roost and nesting spot, by the benches. It reminded me of the old ceiling cat meme motif.

A night-pigeon, bwipping around last night, caught my attention.

I fed this cute and curious bird some niblets of a tasty fried grilled cheese sandwich. Watch the fascinating movements around, as the pigeon postures and gestures at standard food-seeking behavior.  He was a curious and friendly one, and he stuck around for a good while, until I left for the bus. Pigeons are rarely seen out at night.

I'm hoping to catch a clean and fresh ocean air day, out by the beach. There was a light drizzle, last night, and I want to make sure I stay active, so the beach sounds like a nice idea, and I have to return a USB cable to Fry's Electronics. There's been an unfortunate turn of events for the local pigeons - their loft at the Manchester | Harbor Freeway underpass is becoming overrun with a fetid poopy smell. I reached out to the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services yesterday, and they had washed down the human walkways, but they'd been neglecting to wash down the pigeon loft.

I've been feeding the pigeons under the freeway well, but now a bacterial fecal smell has overtaken the vicinity of their roost, next to a staircase. Perhaps I'll hear back from the Los Angeles...

Today I fed the freeway pigeons corn dogs. The baby pigeons went wild for it.

I fed the Manchester | 110 underpass pigeons sweetened cheerios today. They were so cute!

iPigeon Design Tips - using Adobe’s iPadOS apps to recreate a lifelike art-come-to-life encounter.

For those of my readers who had been following along (or, for those who had read and skimmed through my older posts), a classic and cute, humorous article from January 2019 comes to mind, as the year ends, and that progress ought to be made on the development aspirations that had come to light, as I traversed about Downtown Los Angeles, keeping with the spirit of that I could help keep the pigeons well fed, throughout the seasons.

Here’s the gist of the article, which was a photo blog.

This morning, within the space of about an hour or so, I was able to finish off a rendition of a logo I’d been recently tasked with, as for my Google Developer’s aspirations (here, in the workload laid in front of me of needing to create a logo for Google Pay Passes - a splash screen that the user would encounter that would include some terms and conditions, a privacy policy, as well as information of my company, iPigeon.institute, for the sake of the purchaser, or for the sender of finances for my company, or, in the case that I’d been planning on, a recipient of a QR code that would enable the user to gain special access to retail or gift card | loyalty goods, or rewards, for happening upon my marketing material in the form of the IoT object: the QR code [which needs to be decoded, that it must properly trace back to the website that I’d like the client to discover, through Google Lens]).

Here are some of the objects that I rendered out for the compositional logo 

My final and first rendition of a feasible mockup of a nicely-composed logo, based on guidelines with well-written instructions (thanks to Google), and it came out nicely! - I’d say, for a first run. I’ll update later on as I fine-tune the logo and it’s coloring and detail features.

Creating a logo of appropriate technical considerations becomes a tantamount priority for the conscientious developer. End users could ostensibly be quite picky about the sort of aesthetics they allow in to their device and user interactions. I created this guide for my scratch first copy logo based on the Branding Guidelines page for Google Pay Passes Application Programming Interface Developers-in-the-making (documentation).

Adobe provides fine tools and licensed ( - for particular use case scenarios) fonts that can be integrated in to a new creation in their fonts for developers site. Here, I used Adobe Caslon, designed by Carol Twombly. Thanks, Carol! A finely rendered classically-styled font.

The impetus for creating this design comes from Google’s Pay Passes standards, which lay out the guidelines for brands creating a pay portal for payments, loyalty cards, and barcode redeemables.

Since yesterday morning, here’s the progress I made in developing for this proportion and frame size composition. I decided to make it a Christmas 🎄theme, in the spirit of the holidays, and to set myself about a goal of attaining a Pay Passes API QR | barcode-scanned redeemable marketing effort outreach and engagement with my blog’s content and purpose. 

Some more imagination towards the design of the logo imagery, after a day spent researching and establishing other project metric gains in creating Google Pay Passes.

I’ve set out in requesting that the OAuth user consent screen process works out alright and can be approved. I’ll update as I learn what the outcome is.

A common day’s routine of morning pigeon feeding in DTLA. (A photoblog).

Pigeons, in an urban locale, have many various micro-localities and behaviorisms, to be seen, of expositional formations of a flock in garnering a meal, hopefully, from the public.

This sole avian creature, I might imagine as the “scout.” This is the first seeker, or perhaps he was left out of sufficient food enough, from the previous day. Other birds loom and perch nearby as they keep an obvious eye on this one.

After observing the fortunes of this one, having been tossed some breadcrumbs, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, broken up into pieces, (pigeons, at this stage in cross-species socialization with humans, [late August, 2019] are tentative about eating from ‘particularly’ human food resources.

The tentative pigeon, as one of the ostensible pigeons that might be encountered in attempts to feed or tame the birds, as feral pigeons.

Perhaps the flock had been roused or rough-housed by some passersby, prior to this (most ostensibly, this type of thing does happen in Los Angeles). The tentative pigeon sometimes serves as the scout for the rest of the flock.

I hadn't fed the popular (and large) Broadway, between 5th and 6th, in a week or more, partly because of cost concerns, and also because I was keen on making gains in taming the smaller flock of pigeons and sparrows by the Grand Park Children's Playground; also to be found at the LAPD Central Division Park on some afternoons, this time, on account of there being music, dance, and performance events for the summer, at the park.

The LAPD DTLA Central Headquarters, next to City Hall and Grand Park, and Little Tokyo and the Arts District, (on the other side), features a popular dog park; potentially pigeons and sparrows like it also, after events at Grand Park, where I had become accustomed to feeding them in recent weeks.

There's a pretty white-feathered pigeon; a mottled pigeon, and plenty of feral pigeons and sparrows that follow them around, as a dual-species flock in the area and neighboring locales. 

Back to the Broadway on South 500-600 (mostly there, anyhow).

I noticed that there was a great deal of bird physical size variance here; most obviously due to age, as it was perhaps breeding season recently, and this large flock would inevitably feature the new young birds in town. It's grown to what might appear to be nearly a hundred birds, or so. A daunting task for keeping them all fed. Thankfully, the nuns at the Sisters Disciples of the Divine Master and some of the shop owners where the pigeons flock and roost toss the birds seeds. At this point in time, it seems like the birds don't prefer or differentiate between one sort of food, or another. The other feeders must be keeping them well fed, at a sustainable pace.

The pigeons here on 500-600 S. Broadway eat their meal, then, with a powerful flutter, fly away in formation, a theatrical move to complement their considerate societal behavior.

One tentative pigeon remains, perhaps he just hasn't learned, as the rest of the flock has.

The pigeons of Wilshire at Normandie are developing near-tumbler flight.

What is a tumbler pigeon? 

A tumbler pigeon is a skills-developed pigeon; ostensibly in a well-established flock such as is the flock here at Wilshire at Normandie.  

There is a row of restaurants here on Wilshire, and the flock's main roost is on the south side of Wilshire on Normandie.

The difference between a tumbler and a regular pigeon is that the tumbler has a greater capability over its flight strength and hovering (which I've not seen established well in other flocks in the nearby area. Ostensibly, in later years and generations, the pigeon tumbling will take a more significant form in literal flight tumbling.

In future years, I estimate that the pigeons here will learn to do in-flight tricks like tumbling. 

The DTLA Central Branch Los Angeles Public Library birds got a special treat this morning.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with milk. 

A crosswalk perspective of the pigeons vulturing outside the LAPL Central Library at the corner of 5th at Grand; a favorite pigeon haunt, as it features one of the busiest intersections in DTLA foot traffic.

The birds at the park-side (west-end) of the library got a huge midsummer belly's-full of nearly a whole loaf of bread's worth of PB & J sandwiches today. 

The pigeons of Wilshire at Western Ralph's are a flock to behold.

As a recyclables collector, I've commonly come in to homed flocks of pigeons concentrated in a certain area.

Here, at Wilshire at Western in Wilshire Center (of Los Angeles, CA USA), the locals must have been kind and considerate towards birds as a concentrated demographic of people in the area. 

The pigeons of the Ralph's parking lot are a heartwarming feature of the store that merits a visit, for bird lovers.

Today I served the pigeons Kombucha

Target now has a 48 oz. Kombucha for $7.99, which is a relatively good price.

A 48 oz. GT's Kombucha from Target is very refreshing during exercise to replenish the alkalinity of the body.

 For those who are unfamiliar with the drink, Kombucha is a raw tea, typically, made from a bacterial and yeast mushroom culture, stilled in a tea with flavorings. 

I've notably gotten a refreshing flush of pH cleanse by gulping down some of the drink; and the price of the large bottle at Target attracted me to purchasing it, after some time of doing without. I am going out and jogging more resolutely, lately.

The Harbor Transitway at Manchester underpass features an aux hocs-fait-ón-dú flock of pigeons. They are a family, with some new young ones, from recent months!

Next item on the list is getting the birds some salt for fortitude and energy. I know they'll enjoy tasting some salty eggs. 

Some days are rough, keeping the pigeons fed.

Alright, I can own it: the bugs only home are not going to be particularly anything special just because I'm living here.

I had been of the belief that they could or might be; on account of the nuclear watershed environment about the place.

Sometimes the folklorist assertions from the voices in my head catch me suggestible, and not that nurturing environment doesn't count; indeed - particularly for a narcissistic and grandiose mind.

That being said, I've largely overcome many of my histrionics in of grandiosity par narcissisme. It's a difficult road to navigate; looking as I do, with a neuroticism behind the glamour. I wasn't brought up this way. I sometimes fancy the belongings of others, and, as we all know, it is a sin to covet what is rightfully someone else's. 

Sometimes the stories in my head turn me spiraling downwards in to a depressive mood, and I go outside, seeking stimulants for a fix; lately they just haven't been doing the job all that well.

All of that aside, I've realized that, along with my clothing haul from a few days ago, I brought home some ticks, as well. It's the beginning of the month now, and General Relief welfare has come through. I purchased a box of Raid Max concentrated fogger. I tried out staying inside while and after I sprayed, and it definitely works. I was choking on the fumes.

I determined, from last year's iPigeon efforts, that the feces of the pigeons is a mineral-rich substance that attracts parasites. I figure I ought to spray the area nearby my home that features some freeway pigeons, and I'll give them some food, while I'm at it, for the morning, as well. Perhaps milk and cereal?

A 5 minute walk to the pigeons' roost, where I'm sure some ticks have gathered, to mangle the pigeons with Lyme disease.

We strive to be as pigeons, at heart. Any more than that, and are we worse off, as a whole? Any less, and have we failed as humans? Less lovable than an animal?
